Languages used in the European Union

In theory, all languages of the 28 countries, now 27,  that belongs to the EU are official languages of the Union, in reality the language normally used up to now has been English, because all people knows it and because it is the easiest way. In the future, albeit not immediately, there shall be some pressure not to use English anymore for communications inside the EU, the candidates to replace it shall be either French, for historical reasons, or German. What do you think about it?
