Elisabetta II

Sono nato nel 1947, nei miei ricordi la regina d’Inghilterra è stata sempre lei. In particolare ricordo le accoglienze trionfali che ebbe una occasione della visita in Italia nel 1961: non dobbiamo dimenticare che all’epoca c’erano ancora molti italiani che avevano combattuto contro l’Inghilterra ed un certo risentimento sarebbe stato possibile, tuttavia sembra che non fosse così. Ricordo che mio padre era convinto che quest’accoglienza fosse dovuta al fatto che gli italiani fossero un popolo naturalmente monarchico che in realtà avrebbe rivolto rivolgere gli stessi applausi al proprio re. Non so dire che si tratti di un’interpretazione realistica, ciò di cui sono sicuro che con lei si chiude una pagina di storia durata 70 anni, il regno più lungo dopo quello di Luigi XIV, il quale tuttavia divenne re quando era ancora bambino (aveva cinque anni).
