Standardization is extremely important, allows people from different countries, different companies, even different culture to work together on a common project. However, like in any other human activity, the excess of standardization creates more damages than the problems it’s supposed to solve. An easy example of good standardization has been unifying the charging device of mobile phones, an example of excessive and useless standard are those relevant to the diameter of pizza or other similar amenities. A further point to be consider is that standardization has to be an option, not a regulation: the standard has to be used only if it’s convenient, but we must be free to work in any other way.
