Geothermal capacity by country

Italy still has a lot of geothermal capacity available. If compared to other renewable sources of energy, mainly sun and wind, geothermal has a point in its favour: it’s continuous and programmable, while sun and wind are subject to meteorology.

It’s necessary to understand that energy production has to be made through a proper mix of sources, that are renewables (solar energy, wind power, hydroelectricity, geothermal energy and biomass, including biogas, biodiesel and other biofuels; in some parts of the world other sources are available such as tide and tidal waves) and nuclear (now only fission or isotopic decay, fusion in the future)

The choice among the various sources and their mix should be based on engineering and economics, without any ideological view in a regime of technological neutrality.

Note: hydrogen is an important energy vector however it’s not a source, unless we can find the way to mine it. It can be produced from water through electrolysis using energy from renewable source and will be used for domestic and industrial heat production and maybe in endothermic or exothermic motors.
