I’m sorry to inform that Kenneth K. Humphreys passed away. Besides having been the backbone of the ICEC for more than twenty year, he was my personal friend.

Ken was the visionary and driving force in the early 1970s to establish a global organisation representing the cost engineering, quantity surveying, project management and project cost management professional fields. This led to him being the co-founder of ICEC in 1976. He then carried out the role of ICEC Secretary General for 30 years from 1976 to 2006. Ken was also a long term Executive Director of the AACE International (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) amongst a long list of life-time achievements. He also published widely in our professional field. Amongst these publications were his seminal texts ‘Basic Cost Engineering’, ‘What Every Engineer Should Know about Ethics’ and the ‘Project and Cost Engineers’ Handbook (Cost Engineering)’ that have stood the test of time and remain available for purchase on the Amazon website. These texts are still widely cited and used in our profession and educational institutions.
Upon leaving ICEC in 2006, Ken devoted the next chapter of his life to his family and his church becoming a Presbyterian commissioned lay pastor.
Words cannot adequately express the tremendous global impact that Ken had on the long term development of our profession. He truly was a global icon and visionary for our profession.
